Hunting and fishing
Licences for small game can be purchased from both government and private sources in the Sunndal Mountains. A two-day licence costs 200 NOK, for one week 300 NOK. No dogs permitted. Hunting period: 10 September until 28 February. Reindeer hunting, which used to be for local people only, has now been opened for a certain number of outsiders. The price varies from 2000 NOK for young animals to 3600 NOK for any size. Moose and Red Deer hunting in Sunndal has so far not been extensively sold to outsiders.
    Salmon and Trout
The river Driva is one of many Norwegian rivers that have been contaminated with the fish parasite Gyrodactylus salaris. Smolts of the original Driva Salmon species have been released into the sea, and are now returning to the Driva to spawn. Meanwhile the Driva has become famous as one of Norway's best rivers for sea trout fishing, and the average annual catch is about 10 tons. In Upper Sunndal the fishing is at its best in late summer. Fishing permits for the Nisja part of the Driva are sold at the Gjøra campsite.
    Mountain fishing
In the Sunndal mountains there are hundreds of lakes and rivers with jumping trout. Most of the lakes are easily accessible via a short march through the mountain valleys, not far from the parked car. But remember that the largest and tastiest pink coloured fish are found in the less discovered and visited lakes. The "Snøhetta Fellesfiskekort", fishing licence, covers both private and government controlled areas in and around Dovrefjell. The licence can be obtained at shops, tourist huts etc. for the price of 100 NOK for three days and 150 NOK for the period of one week.
